In his studios in Connecticut, and Chatham, Massachusetts, Jim Magner creates marine paintings focusing on the New England coast. Inspired while sailing and navigating the waters of the East Coast, Jim has observed firsthand the many changing faces the ocean presents as the light, sands and water react to the ever changing environment. He enjoys painting en plein aire when inspired by coastal views throughout his travels both in this country (on both coasts) and abroad.
Jim graduated from Vesper George School of Art in Boston, and studied at the University of Hartford Art School and Boston Institute of Architecture. Jim’s professional studies, as well as his great appreciation of French and American Impressionism provide him with a firm foundation in the fundamentals necessary to create his vibrant and expressive paintings.
As a professional artist Jim devotes all his time to painting marine related subjects and exhibiting. His work is in numerous private and corporate collections in the United States and abroad.
